What is a Psychic?

The word 'psychic' originates from the Greek word 'Psyche' meaning the human soul, spirit, or mind

There are many answers to that question. A psychic is someone with intuitive abilities and will use those abilities to help someone else with a problem by offering insight. This is gained with intuition that would not otherwise be available to the person seeking help. This can be done in many ways, using some of the tools mentioned below. Please note though, that a psychic may predict the future, but this should not always be relied upon, as we have free will to change our path at any time.

Psychics are aware of things some cannot perceive through the five physical senses of sight, hearing, touch, taste or smell. They are said to have a "sixth sense" which is often called "extra sensory perception" (ESP) or just "intuition". A Psychic may use one or all of the following:

Clairvoyance - clear seeing. A clairvoyant has the ability to "see" images in their minds that may not visible to the naked eye, and may sometimes be scenes from the future or the past. Some clairvoyants may see the colours of auras, the energy that surrounds our bodies. See the page on auras for more information on them.

Clairaudience - clear hearing. This is the ability to "hear" sounds or voices not audible to others.

Clairsentience - clear feeling. This is the ability to "feel" sensations or emotional energies not noticed by others. Clairsentients who have this ability may be "psychic healers".



Have any of the following ever happened to you ?

The phone rings and you know who it is?

You have a 'gut' feeling that something is going to happen?

You know you are going to see or hear from a person?

You say the same thing at the same time as someone else?

You have a dream that becomes a reality?

These are all examples of psychic abilities. Some have developed and fine tuned this ability more than others. A Psychic is extremely sensitive. Sensitive to touch, to light, to sounds, to smells, to colours, to energy. You must be sensitive to others. Sensitive to how they think, feel and act. Sensitive to other's needs, wants and desires, and to all new ideas that come flooding into your mind.

A psychic is not generally a "mind-reader". Mind reading is called telepathy, and although many psychics may be able to do this, it is considered rude and invasive of privacy to read someone else's thoughts without being invited to.

What else does a Psychic use for reading ?

As I mentioned at the beginning there are many different tools that a psychic can use. Here are some examples:

Tarot Cards

There are many different decks of Tarot Cards that you can purchase. These are past life cards, Native American themes, Rune Cards, Medicine Cards, Karma Cards, Angel Cards, dream cards, chakra cards etc. A psychic can also use a regular deck of playing cards to do a reading. The cards that are used will have symbols that are drawings, paintings, numbers or even words, and these will be interpreted based on a number of different things, including the symbols, the order they appear, and the order the cards are laid out. A psychic uses the cards as a tool, a starting point to focus their awareness on.

Psychometry.

Psychometry is a tool used by many psychics to pick up on the energy field of the person being read. In psychometry, an object belonging to the client and usually carried by the client (such as a ring, or keys) is held in the hand, and a reading is given while holding the object. Again, it is a tool to help focus the psychic energy and allow it to express in a clear and accurate manner.

Astrology

In Astrology, a psychic will look at the way that the planets and stars are aligned in the different constellations and use these alignments to do a reading for you based upon certain things in your life, namely the astrology during the month, date and even the time at which you were born. These readings can predict the different characteristics you will have as well as the tendencies you will have, and also can predict events that will happen to you.

Numerology

Different letters and numbers will align in different ways to give the psychic an idea of the different kinds of readings he or she can provide you with. Most of the time, the numbers that are used are from the person’s name and birthday. Using these numbers, different events can be predicted.

Runes

Runes are relics from ancient times. There are a few types of Runes that are used, which are mainly Nordic and Celtic. Runes are stones or squares that are inscribed with old symbols, and the psychic will use them to do your reading.

I Ching

I Ching is an ancient oracle from China that is used by having three coins thrown six times. This forms what is called a hexagram, which is made up of lines that are solid and broken. There is a meaning that is formed from the hexagram, and then the psychic will look up the meaning in a reference book, and provide a personal message to the client.

Reading Of Palms

Reading of palms, called palmistry, is the specialized skill of reading the lines in a person’s hand. A psychic that knows what the lines symbolize and mean can make predictions about our present and future, as well as tell us about our past.

Scrying

The word Scrying means “to reveal”. This is a very ancient art of being a clairvoyant, or clear seeing. The psychic will concentrate on a very reflective surface until they see visions in it. This can be a crystal ball, water in a bowl, or a mirror.

Dowsing

The last tool of the psychics is called Dowsing. This is using a forked stick, a pendulum, or even a metal rod to point towards yes or no answers.

A psychic can also give you a reading from your aura (your energy field), from crystals, flowers readings, ribbon readings (again using colours that you pick), and tea leaves.



How do I develop my psychic ability?


There are many ways, and what will work depends upon you as an individual. Here are just a few tips and ideas.

Pay attention to your dreams and intuition. Some dreams are psychic, some are simply a replay of the day's events. Write down your dreams, keep a dream journal, and note everything down. Watch out for anything happening in your life that may have been connected to the dream. Listen to your intuition, your gut feeling, the little thoughts that appear in your head. For example, did you get a thought to drive to work a different way than you normally go, and later you hear about an accident on your normal route.

Get a deck of Tarot cards and a book to go with it. Read the book and look up meanings at first, and then put the book away. See what the cards mean to you. Get into the pictures. Let your imagination go. See what you feel. Write anything you get in a journal, with dates so that you can look back at a later time, and see if anything turned out the way you saw it in the cards. It's better to do this for friends and family, as reading for yourself can be tricky. If you have to read for yourself, though, then do it.

Don't dismiss those thoughts and feelings that just seem to appear in your head.

Try psychometry. Hold a friend's keys and see what pops into your head.

Try to get into a regular pattern of meditating. This is a great way to clear your mind, and allows your subconscious mind to come in.

Read as much as you can on the subject. There are also many programs on TV now that cover this subject. Get as much knowledge as you can, the more you understand, the better and easier things will get for you.

Imagine someone like a friend or family, that doesn't actually live with you, focus on them, their features, and try to see or feel what they may be doing at that time, send thoughts out to them to phone you. Please ask for your friends permission before you do this, because as I said earlier, it is rude to remote into someone's private live without permission first.

Developing your Psychic ability is not something that will happen overnight, it will take a lot of time, patience and practice, but you will start to notice more as you develop. Try to join a local awareness circle if you can.
