Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is the channelling of Universal Life Force Energy, through a Reiki practitioner to the client. This is an ancient healing system, that goes back over 2500 years ago, but was forgotten about, until the 19th century when it was rediscovered by Dr Mikao Usui, a Christian head teacher and minister, who went on a quest to find and learn the method of ancient healing.

After many years of study and research in America, he moved back to Kyoto Japan. Again after a lot of study and research he finally found the symbols that he had been looking for, but because he didn’t know how to use them, then he could not heal either. So from there he decided to climb a sacred mountain called Kurayama, where he fasted and meditated for 21 days. On his final day he achieved what he had gone for. A bright white beam hit him between the eyes, a force so powerful that it knocked him unconscious. When he came round he saw the symbols that he had found in the Sanskrit Scriptures, written, in gold, on a screen in the sky.

This is just a brief description of how Reiki came about. It has evolved through the years, with slight changes made here and there, but the symbols have stayed relatively the same. Also many other forms of Reiki are now available, most of which came to reiki masters during meditations.

About Reiki

Reiki Energy helps a person’s being to heal itself. It can work on a mental, emotional and physical level. The energy goes to where it is needed, however it will only be received where permission for the healing is freely given. If a person subconsciously doesn’t want to receive the energy, then they won’t.

Healing can be given distantly or hands on. Both are just as effective as the other. During a ‘hands on’ session, the client remains fully clothed. While lying down the reiki practitioner works down from the head to feet, then client turns over, and the procedure is repeated again on the back. A treatment lasts for about 1 to 1 ½ hours. The energy continues to work for 24 hours.

What is an attunement
An attunement is something that is passed on from master to student. It is done with the student sitting in a chair, and the master blows symbols and colours into certain chakras on the students body. The attunement opens and aligns the chakras. It is nothing new, it was already part of us, but for many it has been closed off. Once opened, it allows the student to pass reiki on and to heal. It does not use your own energy, it uses the universal energy.

During an attunement the student may feel or see different things. It all depends on each individual. Some people feel nothing at all, while others see pictures and colours. Others may feel at total peace with themselves, and an overwhelming feeling of love. There is no right or wrong on how you will feel. An attunement always works if you are willing to receive it.

After an attunement, you may feel on a high, tingly or even spacey. Also don’t be surprised if old emotions/problems from the past resurface again. This is the ideal opportunity to heal them. You may also feel or get a slight cold or other mild side effects. This is rare but can happen. Make sure you drink plenty water after. An attunement really is an amazing feeling. It opens up a whole lot of new opportunities for you to explore.
